The Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs is a regional organisation dedicated to promoting the hobby of model railways across the South of England. Representing over 70 clubs and supported by 8 traders, the Association works to encourage collaboration, share expertise, and engage the wider public through regular exhibitions. Each year, the Association aims to host three major model railway shows, including the well-established Frome exhibition in January and the popular Wimborne event in September, with a third location to be announced. Whether you’re a seasoned modeller or new to the hobby, the Wessex Association offers a welcoming and active community for all enthusiasts.

Through its network of clubs, the Wessex Association provides a platform for sharing skills, showcasing layouts, and inspiring the next generation of railway modellers. Members benefit from opportunities to participate in joint events, access a wealth of experience, and contribute to a thriving community rooted in craftsmanship and creativity. The Association also works closely with traders and suppliers to support the growth of the hobby and ensure that exhibitions offer something for everyone — from detailed scenic displays and interactive layouts to expert advice and quality products.

Whether you’re an individual enthusiast, a local club, or a trader interested in connecting with the wider modelling community, the Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs welcomes your involvement. Clubs within the Association benefit from mutual support, increased visibility, and the opportunity to exhibit at well-attended regional shows. If you’re passionate about model railways and want to be part of a dynamic, supportive network across the South of England, we invite you to get in touch or attend one of our exhibitions to learn more.

Constitution

The Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs is governed by a clear and inclusive constitution that outlines our purpose, structure, and commitments to our members. Open to any club or group actively engaged in railway modelling, the Association promotes the hobby throughout the Wessex area by supporting exhibitions, encouraging collaboration, and maintaining regular communication across its membership. A committee of four elected Honorary Officers, supported by co-opted specialists, oversees activities including financial management, event planning, and member engagement. Member clubs that participate in official exhibitions may receive a share of any surplus, as determined by the committee. The Association holds an AGM each year to ensure transparency and participation. Click here to read the full Constitution and learn more about how the Association operates.
